EXTERIOR HEAT CONTROL – The best protection

That is why we have been offering prefabricated
VELUX flashing systems for most roof

Skylight
Installation Methods
For over 60 years, VELUX
has been known for quality, dependability
and attention to detail. As the world's
leading manufacturer of roof windows
and skylights, VELUX engineers recognize
that different regions of the country
prefer differing methods of installation.
VELUX provides you the quality, dependability
and installation method you demand.
DECK MOUNTED
 |
As
the world standard for over 60
years, VELUX deck mounted skylights,
coupled with VELUX step flashing
kits, offer you the best, most
watertight installation method
available. Great for all climatic
regions of the United States, deck
mounted skylights are particularly
well suited for areas where ice,
snow and freezing rain are prevalent.
VELUX deck mounted skylights are
the only skylights available for
combi applications. Deck mounted
skylights combine an insulating
glass lens, a wood frame and protective
cladding into one unit that is
mounted directly to the roof deck.
Flashing kits are available for
most roofing materials like asphalt
shingles, metal roofing and tile.
Blinds and controls and copper
cladding are also available. |
SELF FLASHED
 |
Developed
for fast and reliably weathertight
installations, VELUX self-flashed
skylights are similar to the deck
mounted skylights except they include
a factory-installed flashing system
designed for shingle roofs only.
Blinds and controls are available. |
CURB MOUNTED

|
Designed
to be used where a site-built curb
is the preferred method of installation,
curb mounted skylights consist
of an insulating glass lens sealed
into a protective metal frame designed
to mount on top of a site-built
curb. VELUX flashing is installed
around the site-built curb, then
the skylight is mounted onto the
flashed curb and fastened into
place. Blinds and controls are. |
VELUX Flashing
Systems – Bring on the Rain
Like water off a duck's
back, VELUX flashing systems are designed
to shed water without relying on sealants
that can break down over time.
VELUX roof windows and
skylights use flashing kits that are
specific to roof pitch and roofing material.
Provided the proper VELUX flashing is
used and installed correctly, the product
is guaranteed against leaks for 10 years.
The unique construction
of VELUX flashings ensures safe drainage
of rainwater coming from the roof above
the skylight, providing complete weathertightness
and preventing leakage. VELUX flashings
blend in well on most roofs because the
roofing material covers the flashing
top and sides and because of their neutral
color.
VELUX flashings are
compatible with virtually any type of
roofing material, from standard covers
such as shingles, shakes, standing seam
metal and tile to corrugated sheeting
or even thatch.
VELUX undertakes some
of the world's most severe artificial
rain and wind tests to ensure that all
products perform to the very highest
standards.
Skylights
Can Help Reduce Condensation in the
Home
Ventilation is a big
step in the fight against condensation. That's
why VELUX builds roof windows and skylights
with several exclusive features that
can help your house breathe easier.
THEY OPEN
VELUX roof windows and
ventilating skylights can be opened with
manual or electric controls to release
the warm, moist air within a home.
FRESH AIR CIRCULATION EVEN WHEN THEY'RE
CLOSED
VELUX roof windows and
the fixed skylight Model FSF feature
an exclusive ventilation flap that allows
air to enter and hot, moist air to escape.
This unique flap can be left open year-round
to provide air circulation.
WOOD SASH AND FRAME HELP INSULATE
All VELUX roof windows
and skylights are constructed with quality
wood, not metal or vinyl. Wood is an
excellent natural insulator because it
does not conduct heat like metal or vinyl.
ENERGY EFFICIENT GLASS
VELUX roof windows and
skylights are available with Low-E insulated
glass. Low-E keeps the interior glass
pane warmer to lessen the chance of condensation
forming.
GASKET SYSTEM DRAINS CONDENSATION
Should condensation
occur, our skylights are even equipped
with an exclusive gasket system that
aids drainage of condensation to the
outside.
The Clear
Choice
glass
vs. plastic
Glass, particularly
the ComfortTM glass used in
all VELUX roof windows and skylights,
is superior to plastic in every respect.
It is:
- More energy
efficient.
- More durable.
- Reduces external
noises.
- Won't discolor,
leak, or allow drafts.

Did
You Know?
Finished
attics and bonus rooms typically appraise
at 100% of the value of the rest of
your living space while basements typically
do not.
Bright
light regulates the suprachiasmatic
nucleus clock - known by most as our
body's internal clock. This clock keeps
our bodies set to the correct time.
Electric
lighting accounts for one-fifth of
the total electrical energy used in
the U.S.
Students
perform significantly better in environments
that are lit with natural, rather than
artificial, light. The study, one of
the largest of its kind, tracked test
scores for 21,000 students in California,
Colorado and Washington. Researchers
report that learning rates were 26
percent higher in reading and 20 percent
higher in math in rooms with the most
natural light.
20%
of our population suffer varying degrees
of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).
Individuals with SAD may experience
emotional depression, a drop in physical
energy, an increased appetite, and
an increased need for sleep. Lack of
sufficient daylight is directly linked
to SAD.
As
you age, the lens of your eyes thickens
and the pupils shrink in size, causing
your eye to adapt much more slowly
to changing light conditions. Researchers
McFarland and Fisher reported that
to accommodate the adaptation of the
aging eye, the amount of light required
for visual acuity doubled for each
13 years after the age of 20. It is
clear that softer, natural light equals
better vision.
American
homeowners said if they had a choice
of accessories for the ultimate dream
bathroom, number one on the list would
be a skylight to bathe the bathroom
with more natural light.
